Introduced in 1979, the single engine, six-seater Piper Saratoga evolved from the Piper Lance, an aircraft based on the workhorse Cherokee Six, but with retractable gear. 

Piper halted production in 1985, but brought the model back in 1993 as a Saratoga II HP.  The turbocharged (TC) version entered the market in 1997.
