The Piper Malibu is a modern Piper model that came out in 1983. It's body is similar to the Lance models and immediately the Piper Malibu filled a unique niche in the market by offering comforts and cabin size of most twin engine planes - at the price and operating cost of a single engine aircraft. It was large enough to be equivalent at the time to what were called the "cabin-class twins''. The aircraft was a huge success and became one of the best-selling airplanes of all time. The six-seat airplane is driven by a single 350-horsepower, six-cylinder engine produced by Lycoming. It can fly at an altitude of up to 25,000 feet. The Malibu is air-conditioned and pressurized - features hard to find in a single-engine airplane. At an optimum weight load, the plane can reach a top speed of 220 knots, or 253 mph. It can hold up to 120 gallons of fuel. Piper introduced the Mirage line to the Malibu fleet in 1989. About 500 Malibu Mirages have been manufactured. The PA-46-500TP Malibu Meridian, a turboprop version of the Malibu was first delivered to the market in November 2000. Seating: Six |
