Launched in 1980, the de Havilland Dash 8 is the most successful regional airliner in the world with over 400 in service. Canadian designed and built, the twin-engine medium-range transport aircraft was designed for Air Mobility - moving personnel and supplies for military operations. It is also the training aircraft of choice for the Canadian Forces Air Navigation School, 17th Wing based at Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The Dash 8-300 is a stretched, higher capacity development of the popular Dash8-100 series.

Newer models of all Dash 8 aircraft carry the Q designation (for Quiet) and are equipped with advanced noise and vibration suppression  technology that makes them the quietest and most vibration-free turboprop aircraft in the sky thereby setting previously unknown standards of passenger comfort that approach those of jet aircraft.

In 1992, de Havilland Canada (now part of Bombardier) introduced the Series 100B with more powerful PW121 engines of 2,150 hp and increased gross weight.
