Launched in 1980, the de Havilland Dash 8 is the most successful regional airliner in the world with over 400 in service. Canadian designed and built, the twin-engine medium-range transport aircraft was designed for Air Mobility - moving personnel and supplies for military operations. It is also the training aircraft of choice for the Canadian Forces Air Navigation School, 17th Wing based at Winnipeg, Manitoba. The first member of the family, the Series 100 combines advanced technology, superior design features and fuel-efficient turbine engines to provide the ruggedness, reliability and performance required in the short-haul, high-frequency regional airline environment. Holding 37 to 39 seats, the 100 features a roomy, modern interior. The pressurized cabin contains wide-body two-by-two seating, stand-up headroom and easy access to the ample overhead bins on both sides of the centre aisle. Newer models of all Dash 8 aircraft carry the Q designation (for Quiet) and are equipped with advanced noise and vibration suppression technology that makes them the quietest and most vibration-free turboprop aircraft in the sky thereby setting previously unknown standards of passenger comfort that approach those of jet aircraft. In 1992, de Havilland Canada (now part of Bombardier) introduced the Series 100B with more powerful PW121 engines of 2,150 hp and increased gross weight. Capacity: 40 persons including crew |
