Cirrus Design, with a staff of over 1,250, is the world's second largest manufacturer of single-engine, piston-powered aircraft, began in 1984 as a kit airplane manufacturing company in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Their first airplane, the VK-30, became an inspiration for developing technologically advanced production aircraft. In 1994, they moved headquarters to larger facilities in Duluth, Minnesota and began research and development of the SR20, a four-passenger, single-engine composite aircraft. In 1995, Cirrus was contracted by Israviation to develop, design and build the "proof of concept" prototype of the turboprop ST50. A year later Cirrus was manufacturing the fuselage, wings and empennage of a Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (TUAV) for the US Department of Defense, using composite technology in all three components. The SR20, with composite construction and advanced aerodynamics, was awarded FAA Type Certification in 1998. It incorporates flat-panel, multi-function display technology and state-of-the-art safety innovations - including a final level of defense known as the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). The next production model, SR22, was FAA certified in 2000. It offers greater speed and even better performance than the SR20. By 2005, the SR22 was the number one selling certified single engine airplane according to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, The SR22-G2 has already proven very popular with previous Cirrus owners. With a 50% faster climb rate, the larger-winged aircraft features a much more powerful engine driving a 3-bladed propeller that greatly increases cruising speed and range. The high performance aircraft has a very stylish interior equipped with state-of-the-art glass cockpit that includes flight display and multi-function displays which support a moving map, traffic and terrain information plus other important monitors including "Skywatch" that displays lightning storms. The extremely safe aircraft, available with air-conditioning, has optional de-icing protection and can support breathing oxygen for a limited period. The SR22-G3 (third generation) featuring almost 700 systems improvements and alterations, plus stylish new two-tone paint schemes (Sterling and Goldmist) was launched in April 2007. A VLJ (Very Light Jet) plane, "The-Jet" was publically previewed on June 28th. Length:
