Design work on the Super King Air 200 begun in late 1970, the aircraft was certificated December 1973, and by 1995 over 1500th King Air 200 had be built. The King Air 200, (the `Super' prefix was dropped in 1996) is the most successful aircraft in its class. The Model 200 was developed from the same fuselage as the Model 100, but with changes to the rear to accommodate a T-tail, plus structural changes allowing greater maximum pressurization. Other changes included higher rated engines, increased wingspan and extra fuel capacity. All branches of the US military fly versions of the Super King Air. The military designation varies but most are called C-12 Huron or UC-12. In May 2007, Hawker Beechcraft introduced the Model B200GT fitted with a new, specially developed, of PT6 engine which develops maximum power at higher altitude, improving aircraft performance further.
