757-232, Song Airlines

The 757-200 aircraft was announced in 1978 and first flew in 1982. The aircraft has exceptional performance allowing it to operate from almost any airport in the world, including noise-restricted airports, short runways and airports in hot and high locations. It is quiet and fuel-efficient, is environmentally friendly and meets worldwide standards for engine emissions. The 757-200 comes in two different passenger configurations seating between 200 and 228 persons. Delta Airlines, which operates its third-largest hub at Salt Lake City International Airport, launched discount carrier Song on April 15th, 2003 using two 757-232s. The new low-cost airline will compete with low-fare carriers, such as Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Inc., who have fared better than the traditional "hub and spoke" carriers. While traditional carriers have lost billions of dollars in the past year, Southwest posted $241 million in profits last year. On average, Song flights are 75 percent full and more planes and routes will soon be added. Song and Delta executives are hoping that Song will help Delta - an Atlanta based airline - back on the path to profitability. Length:
