Marine-1 is a twin engine, all-weather VH-3D helicopter which assists transporting the President of the United States of America and other VIP dignitaries. Built by Sikorsky Aircraft Division of United Technologies, the aircraft is operated by Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1).

The VH-3D derived from the Sikorsky S-61 Sea King series which was originally developed for anti-submarine warfare. First flight occurred in March of 1959 and the helicopter became operational in June of 1961.

The aircraft seats 16 passengers and has been optimized for executive comfort. Because of its especially important role, the aircraft receives extensive care and maintenance exceeding normal standards. The VH-3D folding blade system permits the helicopter to be loaded onto either C-5 or C-17 transports so it is immediately available for transporting VIPs in foreign countries.
