The Irish Air Corps four SA365F Dauphin helicopters, first arrived in mid 1986.  These comprehensively equipped aircraft replaced the Alouette III on search and rescue (SAR) duties in August 1987. Two were dedicated to naval operations and could operate from the flight deck of the flagship  P31 L.E Eithne in most weather conditions.
