Certified on January 26, 1962, the first production Model 107-II helicopters were configured as helicopter airliners and flown for scheduled commercial transportation. Two years later the successful helicopter entered the US Navy and Marine Corps as the CH-46. Carrying 25 passengers and equipped with sound proofing and a roll-out baggage container in the tail ramp, New York Airways provided a scheduled mail and passenger service that linked midtown Manhattan with Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark airports. Passenger helicopter operations ultimately proved too costly and New York Airways went out of business in 1979. Before then, it sold 4 of its 107-IIs to Columbia Helicopters of Aurora, Oregon for logging operations where they transported workers and also did other heavy use. Columbia has operated them ever since. Today one of Columbia's ex-NYA 107-IIs is believed to be the highest-time helicopter operating. Built by Boeing in 1962, aircraft N6675D has flown over 50,000 hours - proof of this helicopter's versatile design and rugged construction. Length:
46 ft
