The Mirage 2000 is very similar to the Mirage III and Mirage 50. However, it is not a variant of either but an entirely new aircraft with advanced interceptor capabilities. In its secondary role as ground-attack, the Mirage 2000 carries laser guided missiles, rockets and bombs. Its navigation and attack systems enable it to fly in any weather conditions while hugging the terrain at a very low altitude and flying at supersonic speed. The Mirage 2000 evolved through several versions. The -C version first flew in 1978. The -N 'Penetration' version brought nuclear standoff capability. From that developed the -D version in 1991. Other versions are the -DA and -E. The latest version is the Mirage 2000-5. Most versions of the Mirage can come either in a single seat or two-seater arrangement. The difference in versions is mostly related to the operational ability of the aircraft. For example, the Mirage 2000C is equipped with pulse Doppler radar that has a "look down-shoot down" capability while the Mirage 2000-5 carries the ICMS Mark 2 automated integrated countermeasures system. All Mirage 2000 aircraft can operate between various NATO forces and use protected radio communications, friend or foe identification, in-flight re-fueling and carry armaments and munitions in accordance to NATO standards. Mirage 2000s are flown by the air forces of Abu Dhabi, Egypt, France, Greece, India, Peru, Qatar, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates. Counting all types of Mirage 2000, there have been 526 aircraft produced. Crew: Pilot only or pilot and navigation/weapons
